Julie joined the WCT community in the Fall of 2019 as the choreographer for our production of Into the Woods. A proud Angeleno, Julie has always had a meaningful inclination for the arts and for helping others explore their world and tell stories through movement. Julie became an official #theatrekid when she began acting at age 11 in her middle school's plays and musicals. She refused to ever leave the stage and is now a self-proclaimed #theatreadult in both her professional and personal life. In addition to her work on the WCT production and creative teams, Julie is on the faculty at Uptown School of Dance in Whittier, CA as a Musical Theatre Dance instructor for both children and adults. In addition to using movement for artistic expression, Julie is devoted to helping others truly enjoy exercise through dance. She teaches high-energy dance cardio classes as a certified POMSQUAD Fitness instructor, creating a space where absolutely all bodies are welcome. She is also the Head Cheer Coach at a Culver City school, where she also teaches dance for Physical Education (usually to Broadway hits). Is Julie busy? Absolutely, and she loves it that way.
Julie is an avid creator who is passionate about teaching dance as a means to empower her students. She says, “Dance is a human instinct. I love guiding students back to the love of movement they were born with that may have dulled over their formative years by fear of judgement. There is room for everyone on the dance floor, and my number one priority as a dance teacher will always be to ensure that students develop the tools they need to move with joy for the rest of their lives. Each day I get to work with the kids of WCT is a gift! I’m honored to be a part of their theatre journey at a company that so closely aligns with my values as both an educator and a performer.”
